GMDSS radio survey
Approved radio surveys for the Cargo Ship Safety Radio Certificate, carried out by AVATEC engineers and accepted by 10 class societies — usually within a single port call.
What we check
How it works
Vessel name or IMO number, port, ETA and the survey you need.
We confirm the engineer, the time on board and the price.
Our engineer tests every installation and fixes defects on the spot where possible.
You receive the survey report for class and flag records.
Before we arrive
Questions
Most surveys are completed within a few hours during a normal port call, depending on the vessel and the condition of the equipment.
Yes. Our engineers carry common spares and repair most defects on the spot, so the survey can be completed in the same visit.
Yes. Doing both in one attendance saves time and travel costs.
Yes. Through the AVATEC group and our partner network we support vessels worldwide.
Tell us the vessel, port and ETA, and we will come back with a plan and a quote. Or email service@avatecmarine.com.

What we test
How it works
Vessel name or IMO number, port, ETA and the VDR make and model.
We confirm the approved engineer, the time on board and the price.
We test every source and fix faults on the spot where possible.
You receive the certificate of compliance for the vessel records.
Before we arrive
Questions
Yes. SOLAS requires an annual performance test of the VDR or S-VDR by an approved testing or servicing facility.
We repair or replace it on the spot where possible, and can arrange spare parts for most makes.
Yes. Doing both in one attendance saves time and travel costs.
Yes. Through the AVATEC group and our partner network we support vessels worldwide.

How it works
Vessel, port, ETA, gyro make and model and a short fault description.
We review the alarms and photos and propose a repair or a retrofit.
Our engineer repairs or installs, then checks heading output to all receivers.
You receive a service report and, after a retrofit, commissioning records.
Before we arrive
Questions
If spare parts are no longer available or failures keep returning, a retrofit usually costs less over the remaining life of the vessel. We give you both options.

We check the bridge layout and interfaces and propose options and price.
Our engineers install, integrate and commission during a port stay.
You receive commissioning records and documentation for class.
To prepare a proposal
Questions
No. Existing ECDIS can stay in service. From 1 January 2029 only newly installed ECDIS must meet the new S-100 standard, so it is worth considering when you replace equipment.
Often, yes. We check the hardware and the manufacturer's support status and advise whether an update or a replacement makes more sense.

Two IACS unified requirements now set cyber resilience rules for new ships and the systems on board. Here is what they cover, who they apply to and what to do next.
Published 7 November 2026 · 5 min read
In short: UR E26 and UR E27 apply to new ships contracted for construction on or after 1 July 2024. Existing ships are not required to comply, but cyber risk must already be part of every ship's safety management system, and new bridge equipment is increasingly built to these rules.
The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) published two unified requirements on cyber resilience:
E26 is built around five functional elements:
The revised requirements apply to new ships contracted for construction on or after 1 July 2024. Whether they are mandatory depends on the vessel type and size, so check the exact scope for your ships with your class society.
E26 and E27 do not apply retroactively. However, under IMO Resolution MSC.428(98), cyber risks already have to be addressed in the safety management system of every ship covered by the ISM Code. And when you replace bridge or radio equipment, the new systems will increasingly be designed to E27 and related standards such as IEC 61162-460 for network security.
During annual surveys and service visits, our engineers can record the bridge and radio systems on board, including software versions, and flag equipment that needs updating. We install and commission systems from manufacturers such as NACOS Marine, Furuno, JRC and Anschütz, and provide the documentation class needs.

From 2026 a new generation of ECDIS can be installed, and from 2029 it becomes the only option for new installations. Here is what changes, what does not, and how to plan your next ECDIS purchase.
Published 7 November 2026 · 6 min read
In short: existing ECDIS do not have to be replaced. From 1 January 2026, new ECDIS may follow either the current or the new IMO performance standard. From 1 January 2029, every newly installed or retrofitted ECDIS must meet the new S-100 standard.
S-100 is the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) framework for the next generation of digital nautical data. It replaces the S-57 standard used for electronic navigational charts (ENCs) since the 1990s. Instead of a single chart format, S-100 is a family of data products that are layered on the ECDIS screen.
The first phase focuses on route monitoring and situational awareness:
Together, these let the ECDIS show real-time depth, tide and current information — useful for safer passage planning in shallow and busy waters. Coverage starts with major ports and grows over time.
These labels describe what a manufacturer intends — they are not a type approval. The test standards for S-100 ECDIS have not been published yet, so no S-100 ECDIS is type-approved today. An ECDIS used as the primary means of navigation must be type-approved.
We install, update and service ECDIS from NACOS Marine, Furuno, JRC and Anschütz. We can review the ECDIS across your fleet, show which units need attention before 2029, and plan upgrades around your vessels' schedules.

Insights · Navigation safety
Satellite interference is now routine in the Baltic Sea and other hotspots. Here is how it affects the bridge, how to recognise it, and what owners and managers can do.
Published 7 November 2026 · 6 min read
In short: satellite positioning is no longer something ships can take for granted. Jamming blocks GNSS signals; spoofing replaces them with false ones. In the Baltic Sea and other hotspots, interference is now a regular part of the voyage. Most ships can navigate safely through it — if the crew recognises it quickly and the equipment that does not depend on satellites is in good order.
On most ships, one or two GNSS receivers feed almost every navigation and communication system. A false or missing position spreads across the bridge within seconds.
A spoofed receiver usually keeps showing a confident position with no alarm. The only reliable defence is to keep cross-checking GNSS against radar, visual fixes and dead reckoning.
IMO circular MSC.1/Circ.1644 asks governments to prevent interference and warn mariners about affected areas. SOLAS still requires every ship to carry a radionavigation receiver suitable for the whole voyage — and to be able to navigate without it.
For ships trading in affected waters, we supply GNSS systems built to keep working under interference:
We supply, install and commission jamming-resilient and spoofing-detecting GNSS systems, connect them to your ECDIS, radar, AIS, autopilot and VDR, and set up the alarms the watch needs. We also service the radar, gyro compass and speed log that keep a ship navigating when satellites fail.
